Elders recovering from surgery, injury, or illness, have the best outcomes with a personalized rehab plan. Wentworth offers a full range of therapy modalities to effectively and efficiently help with pain relief, mobility, and the prevention of physical and cognitive disabilities.

Physical Therapy

Wentworth’s physical therapy program is led by state-licensed physical therapists. Therapy sessions are designed to restore strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, respiration, and motor functions.

Each elder receives a personalized care plan to document progress and allow our physical therapists to accurately assess their readiness to become independent and reintegrate into the community safely. Wentworth helps individuals recovering from:

  • Fractured hips and other bones
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Joint pain
  • Diabetes
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Stroke
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • And many other conditions

Education is an important component of our physical therapy program. Teaching safety and awareness strategies helps prevent future injuries. Therapists teach elders to use adaptive devices and make sure they can do prescribed exercises on their own so they can continue on their own if necessary.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps elders reach maximum function, meaning, and satisfaction in everyday life. Elders learn about the importance of participating in life’s events for overall wellbeing. Wentworth elders learn how to navigate day-to-day challenges like getting dressed, bathing, feeding, home management, and social engagement.

Our occupational therapists take a holistic approach by assessing:

  • Physical condition
  • Cognitive condition
  • Psychosocial condition
  • Sensory condition

Following an evaluation, the occupational therapist creates an individualized care plan based around specific conditions and limitations. A key part of the program is assisting elders with life transitions and preparing them for change.

Speech Pathology

Wentworth speech therapists work with our medical staff to develop individualized care plans customized for each elder’s unique needs. Elders may need speech pathology as a result of:

  • Brain injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure
  • Progressive diseases
  • Cancer
  • Injury

The speech therapists’ duties include assisting with speech articulation and fluency. If cognitive-communication impairment is present, therapists treat attention and memory deficits, abstract reasoning, and problem-solving deficits.
